Black Jack Game Rules

Blackjack is a comparing card game between a player and dealer. Blackjack is played with 4 decks of 52 cards. The object of the game is to "beat the dealer", which can be done in a number of ways:

  • Get 21 points on your first two cards (called a blackjack), without a dealer blackjack
  • Reach a final score higher than the dealer without exceeding 21
  • Let the dealer draw additional cards until his hand exceeds 21

You are dealt an initial two-card hand and add together the value of the cards. Face cards (kings, queens, and jacks) are counted as ten points. A player can count his or her own ace as 1 point or 11 points. All other cards are counted as the numeric value shown on the card. After receiving the initial two cards, you have the option of getting a "hit". Once you're satisfied with your cards you can click stand.

In a given round, the player or the dealer wins by having a score of 21 or by having the highest score that is less than 21. Scoring higher than 21 (called "busting" or "going bust") results in a loss. The player wins by having any final score equal to or less than 21 if the dealer busts.

If you win your hand with a Blackjack you will win your bet 1.5 times. You automatically lose when the dealer is dealt a Blackjack. If you both are dealt a Blackjack it's considered a push and your bet is returned.

The dealer has to take hits until his or her cards total 17 or more points. Players win if they do not bust and have a total that is higher than the dealer's. The dealer loses if it busts or has a lesser hand than the player who has not busted. If the player and dealer have the same point total, this is called a "push", and you do not win or lose money on that hand.

The cards are re-shuffled for each game round.

Player options

Placing bets:
To place a bet you select one of the chips in the bottom right corner of the screen. After you've selected a amount you can click the playing fields on the screen to place a bet. After you're satisfied with your bet you click deal to start the game. After receiving an initial two cards, the player has up to four standard options: "hit", "stand", "double", or "split".

Hit:
Take another card from the dealer.

Stand:
Take no more cards, also known as "stand pat", "stick", or "stay".

Double:
The player is allowed to double the initial bet in exchange for committing to stand after receiving exactly one more card. The additional bet is added to the original bet.

Split:
If the first two cards have the same value, the player can split them into two hands. The cards are separated and the dealer draws an additional card on each, placing one bet with each hand. You then play out the two separate hands in turn. Only one split is allowed. When splitting two aces, you're not allowed to draw any more cards after the split.

Insurance:
When the visible card of the dealer is an ace, you are allowed to buy "insurance" by adding an additional 0.5 times your initial bet. When the dealer has Blackjack, you will win your insurance bet times 2. When the dealer does not get Blackjack, you will lose your insurance amount and the game will continue with your initial bet.
